Divemaster Internship
Becoming a PADI Divemaster is a significant achievement and the first step on the PADI Professional Ladder. At Sail Rock Divers, we offer an all-inclusive Internship program that is designed to take individuals from complete beginner to a fully qualified PADI Divemaster in just 2 months.
During the program, participants will receive comprehensive training in all aspects of diving theory and practical skills, including dive planning, safety procedures, and emergency response. Participants will also have the opportunity to gain extensive diving experience through a series of exciting open water dives, working alongside our experienced instructors to develop their skills and confidence.
At the end of the program, participants will have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to become a fully qualified PADI Divemaster, and take the first step on the PADI Professional Ladder. Whether you are looking to pursue a career in diving, or simply want to take your passion for diving to the next level, our all-inclusive Internship program provides the perfect platform for your journey.
During the first part of your internship, you will complete your PADI Open Water Diver, PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, PADI Rescue Diver, and Emergency First Response Courses prior to starting your Divemaster.
PADI Open Water Diver course will take 3-4 days and 4 open water dives (certified to 18m) – course details
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course will take 2 days and 5 open water dives (certified to 30m) – course details
PADI Rescue Diver Course will take 2 days and 2 open dives – course details
Emergency First Response course will take 1 day (classroom).
You will require 40 logged dives prior to starting your PADI Divemaster which means you will have lots of time under the water gaining more experience and confidence whilst fun diving to make up the remainder of your required dives.
Structure of the PADI Divemaster Course
The program involves three parts:
- Expert level scuba diving theory
- Scuba skills and ‘watermanship’ exercises
- A practical Divemaster Internship where you join Sail Rock Divers staff assisting with real divers
The Divemaster theory covers all important topics including physics, physiology, decompression theory, scuba diving equipment, and other related concepts.
The PADI Divemaster in-water skills and stamina exercises include completing
- 100m tired diver tow – both divers in full equipment/push or tow
- 400m swim – (in one go, with no stops, no swimming aids)
- 800m swim (no overhand strokes) with mask, snorkel, and fins
- 15-minute tread water
- Rescue evaluation
- General diving skills
- Developing the 24 Open Water Diver skills to demonstration quality.
As a PADI Divemaster you will be able to:
- Lead dive trips and tours
- Act as a certified instructional assistant to PADI Instructors
- Teach skills in the pool under the direct supervision of an Instructor
- Conduct the PADI ReActivate program for certified divers
- Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers
- Teach Snorkeling skills
- Generally supervise both training and no training related diving activities by planning, organizing, and directing dives
- Enroll in the PADI Diving Instructor level training
PADI Divemaster Prerequisites
- Certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent)
- Be a minimum of 18 years old
- Medically evaluated and cleared for diving by a physician within 12 months
- Completed Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care training within 24 months
- Have a minimum of 40 logged dives.

The Divemaster Application Fee which is payable directly to PADI is AU$245 and is not included in our course price.

What is PADI eLearning? and the benefits?
PADI eLearning enables you can start your course straight away with the Fully Integrated Digital manual. You can learn at your own pace using your computer or mobile device, wherever and whenever it’s convenient for you. This means no time spent in the classroom during your holiday and more time in the water.
All students are required to sign a PADI Medical Statement prior to starting the course. If the student has any of the medical conditions listed then signed clearance from a doctor, valid for 12 months from the date of signature will be required.
