Whats involved in the IDC process
PADI INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE
The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) will provide you with additional training that allows you to implement the PADI system. During the class time you will learn how to apply PADI standards, how to teach in the classroom, confined water and open water and how to market PADI courses effectively. The IDC also helps you to gain a complete understanding of PADI’s educational goals and philosophies.
The Instructor Development Course (IDC) including prep lasts fourteen days and is followed by the two-day instructor examination (IE), which is conducted by an independent examiner from PADI headquarters.
PADI EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE INSTRUCTOR
During the day we will cover the procedures and give advice on how to run the PADI Emergency First Response Course. Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be able to independently run the EFR program.
Note: you need to be an EFR Instructor to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
The PADI IDC begins with independent learning and is divided into four components:
Prep course covering dive theory and skill development – 2 days
PADI Assistant Instructor Course (AI) – Day 1-4
PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) – Day 5-11
Mock IE – 2 days
The IDC course is scheduled between 08:30 to 18:00 each day. A lunch break will be fitted in where is convenient.
Additional workshops included during the IDC
- Ascents and Descents, Buoyancy control, Buddy Breathing, Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent, Rescue exercises, lift bag, knots, navigation, PPB, student control and scenarios.
- Planning, organizing, scheduling all the PADI Courses in different environments.
- With a relaxed, low stress 14 day PADI IDC you can focus and elaborate on specific topics, review certain parts of the program, give extra time or lectures to our candidates.
- The main focus of our program is to give the best knowledge to our candidates before they start teaching Scuba Diving.
- 2 Remedial Days.
PADI INSTRUCTOR EXAMINATION
The PADI Instructor Examination is held on the 2 days following the IDC. An independent instructor examiner from PADI headquarters conducts it. By the time you reach the IE, you will have covered in your IDC all you need to know to pass with confidence. Each instructor candidate is tested on their ability to teach in the classroom. The confined water and the open water watermanship is also tested by means of a rescue evaluation, and a demonstration of 5 skills. Theory knowledge is assessed by the completion of 5 written exams in physics, physiology, equipment, general skills and environment, and the recreational dive planner. Knowledge of the PADI system is tested by an ‘open book’ exam on PADI General Standards and Procedures.
