Considered the premier dive site in the Gulf of Thailand, Sail Rock  is a pinnacle which rises to 15m above and 40m below the surface. Sail Rock lies between Koh Phangan and Koh tao. It’s famous for its natural underwater vertical swim through or chimney which divers can enter at 6 metres and exit at 18. It is also the visiting site of many larger pelagic fish  including chevron barracuda, big schools of mackerel, jacks, trevally and tuna. You may encounter a seasonal whale shark with over 40 spotted at Sail Rock in 2009 alone.  Giant moray eels and lion fish have also taken up residency. The Trigger fish are also very playful during their nesting period!

Situated around 11km to the northwest of Koh Tao is one of the better regarded dive sites in the area.  It consists of one large main pinnacle with several more smaller ones surrounding it,  rising from depths of around 35 to 15 meters.  There are large underwater plateaus rich in branch corals,  sea whips and barrel sponges and an exceptional presence of reef inhabitants and pelagic visitors.  Chumpon Pinnacle is where you are most likely to spot the seasonally visiting whale sharks .  Grey reef sharks and the occasional bull shark are also no stranger to this site.

Ang Thong Marine National Park consists of 42 islands, its name means “Golden Urn” in Thai.  The scenery topside is very similar to  the Andaman side with many limestone outcrops and formations.  The two most popular dive spots are at Koh Wao and Hin Yippon where you can enter shallow caves and swim throughs. Soft and black corals are plentiful and you may spot banded sea snakes and turtles here.  It is also one of the few places where, if you’re lucky, you may see whale sharks.  This site is also very good for snorkelling.

Shark island is one of our favorite Koh Tao sites because of the huge diversity of marine life, granite pinnacles and swim throughs. There is a resident turtle who on occassion passes by and also the titan trigger fish are good to keep an eye out for.
This site is sometimes exposed to stronger currents so be sure to listen to a full briefing. Groupers and barracudas can often be seen here and you may be lucky enough to spot a leopard shark. This site is excellent for drift and multi-level specialty dives.
