As I take the first step to being a Diving Professional, I thought it might be good to keep a record of what I’ve been doing and then I had another thought… why not share it with the world. Obviously my family will be following with enthusiasm (yes mum, I am eating well and getting enough sleep) but I also reckon that a few potential Divemasters will be interested in what’s really involved, as well as the highs and the lows of doing what people consider to be the ‘Dream Job’.
So I think I should start by explaining how I have found myself at Sail Rock Divers here in Koh Phangan. In November I quit my marketing role in the South of England and headed off to India, like you do. After that I moved through a number of countries before ending up in Thailand.
Having done my PADI Open Water course in a muddy quarry in the UK 3 years ago, I take the opportunity to dive in tropical waters whenever I can, and Sail Rock was on my wish list, being the best dive site in the Gulf of Thailand.
Having dived Sail Rock, as I relaxed at the Dive Centre later that day, I realised I felt at home. It’s then that I thought that maybe now was a good time to extend my diving experience and take the plunge (sorry) by doing my PADI Divemaster course, something I’d toyed with during my travels. Half an hour later, I’d got courses booked and had manuals in hand!
So let the fun begin! I’ll post a little something every few days, just to fill you in, but if you have any questions along the way, just ask!Share
